Day 12 - Albuquerque to Flagstaff AZ

The next morning we had breakfast at Frontier, a place with yummy Mexican breakfasts, cinnamon buns and homemade tortillas.
We drove to Acoma, a Pueblo Tribe village at the top of the mesa. People there still live traditionally with no electricity or running water. We had a knowledgeable guide who took us on a tour of the village and explained the history of the village, including the saga of the ruthless  Spanish cnnquerers and priests.

A Kiva or place of worship

The Catholic Church built by the Spaniards on the site of a kiva the Spaniards had destroyed.

Margaret, Mel and i started driving west again and here we are at the Continental Divide
We stopped at the El Rancho hotel where many westerns were made and movie stars stayed during the early Route 66 eras.

Our next stop was the Painted Desert and Petrified Forest. We were enchanted by the landscape and the colors.

There were many petroglyphs.

We met these artists in residence-a writer and photographer who are collecting vignettes about the Petrified Forest. They were especially interested in Margaret's comparisons with Aboriginal petroglyphs.
